Teachers understand that children learn differently.
The teacher understands how pupils differ in their approaches to learning and the barriers that impede learning and can adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with disabilities and exceptionalities.
Evidence 1: Online Spanish 5 course

Rationale 1: This course was created for the Teaching and Learning online class. I created a course shell for an online Spanish 5 course that would be used for an entire school year. The year long course will consist of units that are approximately 4 weeks long. There will be online and face-to-face components in each unit; however, the structure will vary depending on the unit. For example, when reading a novel, there will be more face-to-face meetings to allow for opportunities to ask questions of the content. When we are practicing grammatical structures there will be more online activities to allow for self-paced instruction. Students can expect to have at least one discussion question per week.
Students will benefit from this course format because they will be able to customize their learning. They may do more or less with a particular concept as long as they can demonstrate an understanding. The learning objects provide individualized instruction that is engaging and motivational. The structure of the course will prepare students for post-secondary education. The entire blueprint is attached.
As an educator, I look forward to utilizing this format of teaching. I become the facilitator of the learning environment and the attention is on the students.
KSD 3.K.1 The teacher understands and can identify differences in approaches to learning and performance, including different learning styles, multiple intelligences, and performance modes, and can design instruction that helps use students’ strengths as the basis for growth.
Within the course students will use learning objects and online activities to master the concepts at their own pace. Students can improve on what comes easy to them. For students continuing their education beyond high school this format may be something they encounter.

3.S.1 The teacher identifies and designs instruction appropriate to students’ stages of development, learning styles, strengths, and needs.
This course will provide variety in activities for different ability and interest levels based on a student’s own individual strengths and weaknesses.

3.D.5 The teacher makes students feel valued for their potential as people, and helps
them learn to value each other.
The online environment that is created will be a place where students share ideas with each other. The online discussions will allow me to provide the students with feedback that shows I value their ideas. The feedback they receive from me and from their peers will give them a sense of “community” and a go to place for valuable dialogue.
